Vintage European Folk Art Textile c1920
Item # 4423
Click HERE to inquire about this item

This vintage textile appears to date from around 1920, and was probably woven in the Ukraine or eastern Europe. The designs are a blend of traditional and modern (modern at the time, that is). The eight-point star is a very old Ukrainian folk design, but similar designs are found in the folk textiles and ornaments of Romania, Czechoslovakia, and Poland. Regional folk designs have always crossed political borders. The panels with the pink and red flowers and overlapping circles are an interesting contrast to the panels with the traditional geometric shapes. The flower panels were clearly influenced by the Art Deco movement
