                        |  Early 16th century English needlework TapestryMuseum quality 16th century needlework tapestry depicting Prince Philip of Spain and Queen Mary of England, who were married in 1554. Mary was the daughter of King Henry the 8th. Philip became King of Spain shortly after his marriage to Mary. The needlework shows the royal couple and their retinue at a fountain, against classical architecture, attended by a blackamoor dwarf, amidst a variety of flora and fauna, including a monkey, rabbit, snail, peacock, hedgehog, and dogs. Philip is attired in an embroidered cape, neck ruff, and high boots adorned with lion masks. Shades of green, blue, gold, ivory and tobacco.
